The Internet stops working randomly

Hey everyone.

I have the following issue. After I leave my laptop for a few minutes, the Internet just stops working. The wifi signal still shows connection but when I try to surf, it shows that no Internet is present. Also, the same problem occurs when I am using my laptop for things besides the Internet (e.g., watching a movie, or for coding in IntelliJ). Thus, I suppose there hibernation, or sleep on my machine does not work properly.

What are some probable solutions?

My system:

Use some network diags maybe for more information? Try to log into your router? Could it be some lease issue?

Agreed. If the WiFi shows connected on the ‘puter, and also shows no internet, that indicates an issue with the router or wireless access point, not on the ‘puter.

I'm also inclined to think that the problem is outside your computer.

For testing purposes, you might take the laptop to a place with wireless access (a library, perhaps, or a coffee shop) and see whether it maintains a stable connection for a reasonable amount of time. To further narrow the list of suspects, you might also test with a wired connection using a known-good cable to your router.

That's a good idea, though it seems like now is not the best time for testing my laptop connection somewhere away from home.

Could you suggest me a shell script that I may use in order to reset my Internet connection when it does not work?

No need for shell scripts. Are you using NetworkManager to control your network connectivity? I know some users use other frameworks. This might tell us that...
Code:
sudo systemctl status network.service
Otherwise check out

Can't hurt to check this:
Code:
ping archive.org
ping 1.1.1.1
If the latter works, but not the first, your problem is "only" with DNS.
The command from the previous post should also help clarify things.

Beyond that, I heartily recommend getting familiar with your router. Most have a Web UI you can log into from your desktop.
