TCP/IP performance

Hello there,

WHen a linux machine send and receive, say ethernet traffic, I would like to get a measurement of how much time is spent inside ethernet driver, how much in IP stack, how much in TCP, how much in user space. I basically have two computers connected back to back with ethernet which send and receive messages between each other.

What would be the best way to get such a delay division? Would kernel profiling help in that? Or should I modify kernel to insert time measurements at needed points and read the time ? Or is there some tools already that help in that? Is it possible to do something from userspace? ANd I would like to do the same for ATM.

thankyou
