Does anybody know wether or not Linux works with the T-Online supplied hardware for DSL?

What you need to find out is the exact model of network interface card they supply. It can vary between locations (and over time), so you should call and get that info from them. Then see if the version of Linux you have supports the NIC. Linux won't care what model of modem the NIC connects to.

So ... I know my selfcompiled 2.4.4 supports inteface cards since is use the Box as a Router / Proxy / Fileserver.

From your reply I take it as long as the DSL HW is connected via Ethernet everything should be fine?

THX for your help

Basically, yes. The external modem is treated as just another network device that your box connects to.
I know that some DSL users have had problems configuring PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet), so if your provider uses PPoE, it might give you some setup hassles. I'm using a cable modem though, so I don't have any personal experience with it.

Just as a point, if you look on T-Online's website in the FAQ, they at least acknowledge that people will want to connect via Linux and offer some (limited) assistance on it. So if you have problems connecting with the stuff they gave you, e-mail them. They might be able to help.
