Please excuse me for the stupid question in advance. I'm using openSUSE 10.3 and I'm trying to manage my network settings with the NetworkManager app... But I have a static IP, dhcp service is not available. After configuring my settings with YaST and restarting the network my subnet mask is corrupted. Please, see this screenshot.
I hear more people with issues using network-manager not working properly lately..
so if it keeps defaulting to 255.0.0.0 you must be using a 10.x.x.x network, and it keeps defaulting to the class a subnet mask and ignoring the entry you made..
I see you are not the only one with this problem on Suse.. http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/sus...questions.html
Unfortunately the guy trying to help him isn't grasping the issue is YAST/network-manager not holding the applied settings.
Looks like it may be a bug.. might want to search the SUSE bug list and see if it's there, if not report it, If this works fine when you do the configuration manually..
It shouldn't require 'special tricks or voodoo' to allow you to configure your network settings through a GUI
It's 7:20 AM here and I'm in a hurry to answer you before heading for work.
It seems to be a bug in the network manager. I'm using a Class A network, but the netmask is not the default. It seems that YaST uses CIDR notation in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 (ip/mask) and the network manager does not understand it. Putting the netmask manually inside does the work (NETMASK=...).
Unfortunately the network manager has its issues that prevents normal users from using it and we end up with crap like M$ Vista. It also does not have nice support for profiles. Anyway... gotta go working
