1. make sure your firewall is disabled...
iptables -F INPUT

2. make sure your netmask and routes is ok..

3.
and be patient in my first linux steps i have the same problems...
is in this problems when we adquire experience!

I have this exact same problem, and have had it with Mandrake, Red Hat, and Peanut Linux on two different machines.
The cards are config'ed correctly and can ping themselves, they even come up active on my hub, but they can not reach the network.
It is really pissing me off because I've never had a problem with Linux using these cards or machines until recently with newer distros.

Gjallis,

What subnet mask are you using? Try this, set one machine's IP address to 192.168.1 .1 and the other as 192.168.1 .2. Set both subnet masks as 255.255.255.0. See if they can ping each other then.
