Streaming content via 3G mobile service..
I have had a read on this site, and a few other sites, and see it is possible to build a pretty decent Media Centre using Linux, I have an idea for something i want to do using open source software, and was wondering if it had been tried before or any advice could be given,
If i buld my Media centre Pc, and have it up and running using a system like freeVo, for capturing the TV Card, and recording the programs, and on the same PC i put a webserver system like Xampp. I then get a streaming server like Videolan to sream content to a mobile device which is attached to a 3G network (for the sake of logistics this could be done say in the UK, on a 3G phone network)
Now if i had a PDA running the videolan client i could stram the content from my Pc's webserver to the PDA?
So for example, as i'm in the UK, i may have missed eastenders, but recorded it to my linux home media centre, using the above setup could i stream that recording to my PDA..? and watch eastenders from my Pc on the way to work?
I was thinking of maybe having a CMS like mambo as the webfront end, and using one of its document management plugins to obtain the content? that way the content could be limited per user login... and the recoreded media would be placed in the right folder upon recording..
I'm looking at concept at first, then maybe if someone isn't doing already.. look at the ideal distro to start with?
I suppose if it is possible, then stuf like VoIP, webchats with home, obtaining files and home working become more of a viable option...
Any ideas, conents or suggestions?
