I want to use '-X' to access GUI from remote. I can connect to the server but I get error that authentication failed. I don't understand, if I logged into the server why I get authentication error.
Code:
mahmood@host:~$ ssh -X mahmood@server
mahmood@server's password:
Linux server 2.6.32-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 5 09:22:14 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

/usr/bin/xauth: error in locking authority file /home/mahmood/.Xauthority
mahmood@server:~$ startkde
X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.
$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server.
mahmood@server:~$
Your server-side ssh daemon does not allow X11 forwarding. You have to edit /etc/ssh/sshd.conf accordingly.
But for starting a full remote X session, there are better solutions, for example using XDMCP (kdm supports it, try google) or VNC or XRDP if you want to be able to detach and background the remote session (the latter is perfect if you want to use a windows client without installing extra software).
