starting spamassassin md 10

I have md 1 installed and have installed

# spamassassin
# spamassassin-tools
# perl-Mail-SpamAssassin

via urpm

The problem is that spamassassin will not start, i have tried

service spamassassin start

but nothing.

The box is remote so doing admin via ssh and webmin, looking in webmin 'bootup shutdown' section there is no spamassassin.

any ideas?

/var/log/messages might contain some entries that could point to reasons why SA is not starting.

BTW: Spamassassin starts a process called "spamd", not spamassassin.

nothing in /var/log/messages aso did try 'service spamd start' again nothing
