Starting DHCPD


Hello there

Maybe a stupid question.

But how do i start dhcpd

I have the file dhcpd in /etc/rc.d/initd
And the file dhcp.conf in /etc

But if i run dhcpd nothing happens
And with ps -ef i cant seem to find the dhcpd running

Weel do i have the file K35dhcpd in the dir /etc/rc.d/rc3.d
but not S**dhcpd

Do i do something worng or am i missing something


Redhat 7.2

Just to be sure, dhcpd is the daemon you run when you want to *hand out* DHCP addresses. In older distro we had a DHCP client called dhcpcd (spose its called "pump" now).

The "K" means kill, as "S" means start. I guess the number should be higher than S??network, so ti runs after you have started your network devices.

Running "man dhcpd" would give you an overview of the options you can run with the dhcpd command, usually there's a debug option (maybe "-d"), which will make it spit out diagnostic messages. Run it in debug mode, check the logfile, and post your errors here.
