SMB mounting with /etc/fstab

Hi There,

I am having problems mounting a SMB share with my fstab file.

I can mount it manually with

mount -t smbfs //servername/sharename /mnt/servername -o uid=500,gid=500,username=username,password=xxxxx,rw

This works lovelly, RH8.0 even puts a icon on my desktop for the drive.

However I've added this line to my fstab
//servername/sharename /mnt/servername smbfs uid=500,gid=500,username=username,password=xxxxxx,rw 0 0

and it doesnt mount at boot time, I get the error;
Mounting SMB filesystems: error 591, Connecting to servername failed.

However after bootup when I do a mount -a it reads this same config line from the fstab and mounts the drive fine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be, I thought you could test /etc/fstab configs by unmounting the drives in question and running a mount -a.

it may be that its trying to mount the drive before the network or dependent services for smb have started? Not sure.

you could just put a "mount -a" in your rc.local to get around this for now.

-K.

maybe an "auto" helps

you can try
//servername/sharename /mnt/servername smbfs auto,uid=500,gid=500,username=username,password=xxxxxx,rw 0 0

greets
