Hello everybody. I found a solution to slow DNS resolution under Slackware. This applies for cable connection. The process must be the same for other distros around too.
It's very simple, so let's get started:
1. Disable automatic dhcp lookups.
Under Slackware, the option to use dhcp for an ethernet card is located at /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file. There must be a line looks like:
USE_DHCP[n]="yes"
in that file, where n is your ethernet card number. You can learn which ethernet you are using to connect internet via ifconfig command. Check the ip of the ethernet card for reference.
2. Delete the /etc/resolv.conf file's content. It must be empty.
3. Edit the /etc/rc.c/rc.local, and add three lines to it:
echo Slow DNS Workaround
dhcpcd -R ethN
named
where N is your ethernet number again.
4. Save the file and reboot.
This is working faster than compared to Windows
Hope this helps!
