Bear with me, I am a complete linux networking n00b.
I am running Slackware 9 and have a Windows 2000 VM installed using VMWare. I can get internet connectivity on the VM, however VMWare uses DHCP and grabs a unique IP, something which I would like to avoid. I let VMWare's config utility create an interface called vmnet8, and here is the output from ifconfig:
Code:
vmnet8 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr <removed>
inet addr:192.168.197.1 Bcast:192.168.197.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
So the vmnet interface has been set to use a private subnet, which is one step in the right direction. I just don't know where to go from there. How do I force Win2K to use that device to obtain its IP address? Is this something I need to set up in VMWare itself?
