first of all, you'll need a crossover ethernet cable. Connect the cable to the ps3 and the computer, then enable network connection sharing on ur xp machine.
start > control panel > network connections > right click local area connection > properties, look for share this connection.

it isn't. If you look at the cable you'll see that the wires go in this order on both ends
white orange, orange, white green, blue, white blue, green, white brown, brown. On a cross over cable one end would look like that, and the other would be
white green, green, white orange, blue, white blue, orange, white brown, brown.
hence wires 1-3 and 2-6 are swapped

i have 2. a 1394 connection and a wireless network connection. on the wireless network connection there's no "share this connection" but on the 1394 connection there is. is that the one im suppose to share?
by the way..my wife has a macbook and i hooked it up last week to the ps3 and with the ethernet cable was able to share. without the crossover ethernett. then i tried it a day ago i tried it again and it didnt work. so im not sure what happened there. but why would i need the crossover ethernet cable with xp and not with mac?

i know that cisco switches can automatically flip pins 1-3 and 2-6, i guess mac books can do it also. After all, Macs are designed for people who don't want to mess with anything.

do you have a firewire network card? thats what 1394 is

1394 is short for IEEE 1394 which is also called Firewire or ilink. It is similar to USB but used mainly for video devices. It can be used for networking and I believe the PS3 does have a 1394 port but do not know if or how well a firewire network works in linux.
It does not appear that your desktop according to windows has an ethernet adpater.
It may not be configured correctly, turned off in BIOS or does not exist. However, it should be possible to configure ICS with a wireless connection.

so then why when i click on my Wireless Network Connection 3, it does not give me the option to share this connection??????? i have it on the 1394 connection but its not even showing up on the other one where i actually receive my internet from my router.
I had found a site earlier that mentioned XP ICS with a wireless but can not find it anymore.
My W2K laptop wireless adapter has the ICS option. Will have to do some more searching.
