Setting up Networking on and old ATRV-mini robot with Redhat zoot

Hi guys

I recently picked up this old beast from a government auction, its an IRobot (formally Real World Interface) ATRV-mini robot from around 2000.
It has an onboard P3 computer running redhat zoot with sonar sensors and a few other bits and bobs.
Being as old as it is I'm struggling to find documentation for it but I do have a pdf on how to start the control software, I just want to run some of the sample programs before I upgrade the computer and motor controllers.
But anyway for my main problem, being fairly new to linux I'm having trouble getting the network setup, I've tried netconfig and put all the details in and I still get the error "network unreachable" when I try to ping my router.
I've tried alot of methods That I've read on the net but still no joy. the only thing is I cant log onto the root user (had a password for some reason) I'm wondering if this is my trouble?
I can take some pics of the errors if that would make it easier.

Heres some pictures of the unit

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

Zoot was/is the codename for Redhat 6.2. Its been a very long time... Are we trying to get a wireless or wired adapter configured? Without the root password you will not be able to change any settings on the robot.

Did the lspci command exist back then... Try executing the command and post the results.

Cheers for the reply.
I've managed to figure out the root password and setup the the network card and communicate with the robot.
But now according to the manual I need to connect to the robot with x window and run a Java app to be able to control the robot from my laptop. I've tried with putty but I can only connect via telnet and not ssh. More research required I guess.
