Question Server IP changes on reboot?

I set up apache on my linux machine a few days ago, but I've found that when i reset the machine the ip address changes. My linux machine is behind a router, so I'm assuming the ip address is set by the router. Is there any way I can set things up so that the same ip address is assigned each time for that machine? I have port forwarding set up so that the server can be seen from outside the network, but i have to reset the port forwarding each time i reset the machine.

Configure the interface for a static IP address instead of DHCP, set the router as the gateway. Use Mandrake Control Center under networking.

Most routers like Dlink set the starting address for DHCP at 100 i.e. 192.168.x.100. Use something less then 100. What router are you using?

Hey, its a cheapy, Hawking Technololgy PN9235. I'll mess w/ the static settings though.

So I want to disable DHCP, and set my WAN IP Address, WAN Subnet Mask, and WAN Default Gateway. Could someone help me with what to enter here?

I'm guessing that for WAN IP address I want to use my ISP assigned IP, but I don't have the slightest idea what to use for the other two settings.

There is another place to set the Host Name, but this is totally up to me right? does that set the workgroup name?

All of the WAN settings should be setup automatically by your ISP.

You don't need to make any changes to the router to have your machine use a static IP.
