I have just finished setting up my mail server (Sendmail) and i noticed that its getting marked as spam?
It couldnt be the domain name or IP since both are new. I have never before run my own local mailserver so i couldnt be labeled a spammer! could i?
At first i thought i might have had a problem with my mx or ptr record but shortly found out that i dont. My ptr record correctly maps to my mailserver ip address and hostname correctly maps to mail server.
Does anyone have a clue into which area i may be overlooking and should re/investigate?
What is the answer you get when your mail is rejected as spam? Perhaps your IP is listed in some RBL database. You can take a look here to see if that's the case.

Well im not on that database which makes me smile =D
Also im not getting bounce backs yet because i have not opened sendmail to listen for incoming messages on external address, only because i want to have it setup and secure before its able to be used as relay server possibly.
However, i get through on hotmail and end up in the junk folder. Maybe i need to allow my mta to respond to external request to fix this problem?
OK now I see. Did you try to send mail to another domain except hotmail? I guess not, so you thought that you are a spammer because your mail ends in the junk folder.
The reason is that hotmail uses SPF for spam blocking!!!! which you have not implemented in your sendmail server. If you want to send mail to hotmail accounts you have to setup SPF.

Many thanks =D
Yes i only sent mail to two domains. hotmail and frontiernet.net.
Hotmail put me in junk and frontiernet.net didnt relay my message.
Not sure whats up with frontiernet, but i believe i need to enable my sendmail to listen for responses.
