Question Samba Issue: No service...on the remote system

I'm a newbie running rh7.1 with samba 2.2.2 in an NT domain. The samba machine (persephone) is visible to NT machines but when I try to connect to it I get a "not accessible" error. It also says "No service is operating at the destination network endpoint on the remote system."

Everything appears to be working correctly, nmbd and smbd are up, testparm returns no errors.

I'm stumped.:smash:

Angry Problem with Linux on Windows NT network

I seem to be having the same problem you are, I have a Windows NT network, and I am running samba 2.2.5-2 on a rh7.3 operating system, I can see the Samba machine, but when i try to access it from another machine on the network I get a "not accessible" error. I also get an error that says "No service is operating at the destination network endpoint on the remote system." when I try to access the Samba machine from one of the NT servers, I can even see the rest of the NT network from the Samba machine, but I do not seem to have the proper rights set to access the drives and folders of the other computers on the network, but I do see them from the Samba machine. Everything appears to be working correctly, nmbd and smbd are up, and testparm returns no errors. Please let me know if you have gotten an answer to this problem, we have tried everything over here, and nothing seems to work. Thanks.

Talking Fixed problem!

We fixed the problem here, it seemed the firewall that was installed during the installation process was causing the problem, to reconfigure the firewall, or to disable it all together you need to type the command "lokkit" then choose from there what you want to do.

Thumbs up samba "No service is operating......"

Wow! cheers for the post Alan,

I've been all day trying to get samba shares up on my W2K box and this was exactly the porblem. Thing is on RH Linux 8.0 I don't even remember setting the firewall settings. I can't find it mentioned any where as a risk even.

once again cheers

Smile Samba Working

As Alan replied earlier, I found that by typing the "lokkit" command, you can opt to turn off or alter the settings of the Firewall. I turned it of for now and everything works like a charm.
