I have configured Samba to share a folder named opt and it seemed to work. When i try to map a drive to it in win 2k, it keeps asking for password. I entered all the user names and passwords and it keeps bouncing back. Is there another config file I should check. thank you in advance for all your help.
Hi, I am also a newbie. According to O`Reilys "Using Samba" ,there are 4 levels of security, Share-level security,User -level security,Server-level security, and Domain-level security. From what I understand in share-level security every share in a workgroup has a password associated with it. In user level the workgroup is configured to allow access from certain users. I would change my Samba config to security=users and see what happens.
I had to do this very thing on Friday. With security level of user, I had the same exact problem as the original post. Setting it to share allows me to map drives and brows the linux box with no passwords required.
