Router - nic's don't work together

I'm trying to set up a linux system on my old computer as a router, but I have a major problem. My Network cards are, 3com 905b PCI and 3com 509b ISA.
When i install debian the system can only find one of the cards.
When i install Mandrake it finds both cards, but won't reboot when installation is finnished.
I've read something about problems with ISA and PCI network cards together, but i haven't found it again. Do anyone know if there are any known problems with theese two cards together?

i don't care if it's only 36 bucks, i'm going to use my old computer as a router cause it's possible. if i don't have to buy a router, i'm not gonna buy a router.

sorry if I sound like a prick, but I'm not asking for purchase help.
