My router keeps cutting of the connection i have between my 2 computer to the internet and each other. Even when I ran windows i had this problem but with that I had the configure disk which was the only thing I could do to get it back up. But when I run the disk(even under wine) i get nothing. I can reconnect 1 of the computers straight to the cable modem and it works fine(after restarting them both) but I can't get the router to work to save my life!
Do you have a 2.4 ghz cordless phone? Is your router 2.4 ghz? I think there's a problem with the phone ringing and killing the router. I've lost my whole network right after the phone rings. Have to power cycle the router to get it back.
i shutdown both computers, unplugged both the modem and the router and waited a few mins.-- plugged the modem back in and the router a few mins after that and started the computers up again a few mins after that. If that the correct sequence?
In my case, I just power cycle the router and the network comes back up in 30 seconds or so. When I am running Windows I need do nothing. If I'm running Linux I need to restart the network adapter on the Linux machine. I think the last time it happened I brought up a terminal and issued /sbin/ifconfig eth0 down and then /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up.
What ISP do you have? I have Verizon DSL and had the exact same problem as you, and at some points it would say it's connected, but you could only get to a site by entering the ip address, meaning the nameservers weren't working. I went into my routers configuration and set static DNS servers to 64.81.159.2 and 66.92.224.2 and it fixed all the problems. Our phones no longer have static, no problems with it disconnecting, everything is fine. Supposedly VZ is obsessed with the FiOS network and they're somehow messing up the dsl nameservers.

Thanks---i tried a few differant ways of doing this--and it fixed it!!! I left the computer up and running typed in /sbin/ifconfig eth0 down unpluging the cable modem and waited a few mins (smoked a cig) repluged the modem back in and let it run all its checks the typed it /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up and went down to the network interface thing and hit connect internet and i was all done!! woohoo!
now if i can just figure out whats causing it to begin with--i'll be all set!!!
