RH9 - Wanna keep non admin users off NIS server - how?

Hi,

I have a pure RH9 private lan that has an nis/nfs server. I want to keep most users out, but allow some in (the ones that have root access). How can I do this?

I did a google for "restricting logins to nis server' and found some stuff that hinted at the answer being to use a "+" syntax, however most people responding to the question just flamed the guy for asking such an obvious question....well, it's not obvious - especially if you don't understand NIS completely.

Here's what I found so far:
<url's deleted because I don't have 5 posts yet - ask me if you want them>

Only one had an example that didn't work:
<again, url's apparently a no-no>

After doing this, I was still able to login to the nis server as a normal user.
None of these have helped....any ideas out there?

Thanks,
-Phil

yup! i was facing the same prob earlier.
well i have come up with rather unorthodox idea
create a folder in ur home directory, just keep all the home folders of ur desired users in that folder
and export only that folder using /etc/export
that way although u r not restricting nis access but restricting the usage of file system of the undesired user

Surely there must be a more academic way using /etc/passwd ?
