RH7.2 and cable modem problems

Ok, I've decided to try and face this problem that has been around for a few months now. I have DHCP setup on my home network. I use a 4 port Linksys router to split my cable connection between 3 PCs. I had RH7.1 installed and running fine on the Net. Didn't need any configuration for the Internet at all. So I upgraded to RH7.2 knowing I was going to have this problem (again ).

Now, when I finished the install of 7.2 I went and started Konqueror to see if I could get the Net. I didn't. It gives "Unknown Host" as my error for any webpage. So I went in as root, did "ifconfig". It shows my eth0 card installed and has my internal IP. I then did "netconfig" and chose the "Use dynamic IP configuration (BOOTP/DHCP)" option. I still don't get anything on the web.

This time around, I really want to resolve this problem. Where should I start?

first see if you can ping ip addresses.. and maybe the name of the website.. if you can ping ip's and not names, its your DNS settings which you can add your ISP DNS entries in the /etc/resolv.conf file in this format:

nameserver 0.0.0.0 #primary or first namserver ip
nameserver 0.0.0.0 #secondary nameserver ip

you won't need to type the #primary or first .... etc.. after each ip.

After I did "netconfig" and chose the "Use dynamic IP configuration (BOOTP/DHCP)" option, I rebooted. That did the trick.

you could have just done a /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
or ifconfig eth0 down then ifconfig eth0 up
