I just installed RH9, with good success (barring the incident of water and the hard drive!) I would like to set it up to be a file serv/web serv/router(internet sharing). But for now I'd just like to get the router up and going.
I have installed 2 NICs (eth0,eth1), and configured PPPoE(dynamicIP) over eth0 successfully. I have my WinXP machine connected to eth1. I have set eth1 to an IP of 192.168.0.2 and can ping it from XP. I think I have setup XP to be 192.168.0.3, but cannot ping it.
So far much of the resources on the net are a bit over my head, so is there a simple way to accomplish this? I found one resource that said I can just use routing, but didn't say how....
Unless you don't want to have a domain, you need to learn bind, unless your hosting a webpage between the two computers but..... There's also a package on RH9 for ftp, which isn't too hard to configure, especially if you aren't going to have multiple users.
