First off, are you using ethernet or usb connection to the cablemodem?

If ethernet, you have to use the DHCP (bootps) client configuration.

Ways to check this in a shell (as root)

$> ifconfig -a (checks all network devices)

$> ifup eth0 (if you have dhcp client already loaded this is a quich script to bring go to the DHCP server and get IP and DNS entries)

$> ifdown eth0 ( kinda obvious )

Another question, are the DNS entries the right ones for COMCAST?

I am using a Nic card so yes it is ethernet I dont know if the Dns entries are wright I called Comcast there reply was sorry we do not support Linux (I then said too them I am just wanting too fill in some simple blanks like you would in windows or Mac Os)Comcast said well your computer needs too connectt too our server with DHCP and will configure automatically so the answer too DNS entries dont Know if there correct.
