RedHat Install device cant be initialized?

Hi,
First let me say this is one of my first times installing any linux ever. And when i was trying to get the net connection working, it keeps telling me that the device cant be initialized. I did lspci and it sees my net card, as a 'Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21040 [tulip] (rev 23)'
So when i go to the network configuration window, click new and start to set up my ethernet connection. Select the DEC 21*40 and clones as the adapter, is there a specific setting i have to set in the device pull down window? Ive tried eth0 and eth1 and neither had any effect. Also, what would i put in the Resource section?
I choose for it to automatically get the ip and dns info with dhcp and click apply.

When i try and activate it i get this error
' tulip device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization' which i dont understand, because it does see the card in the pci slot.

If anyone has any ideas, please tell me, because im already pissed off at this box, because it doesnt want to see my 512 megs of ram either.. any ideas would be gratly appreciated. Thans in advance.

Looks like an IRQ conflict.
What does the BIOS say? You frequently get a PCI card list with IRQs assigned while booting. You also may have a look at /proc/interrupts and post it here.
Remember: Linux does not share interrupts.
