Redhat Ent 4 + rtl8139 = slow network

I am running Redhat Ent 4 on a Presario r4025 and I am unable to get the network running without any major packet loss for te life of me.

I've concluded its not a:
IPv6 issue
DNS issue
CPU load issue

It works fine in Vmware but not a native install. I tried to compile other drivers but I'm to much of a newbie to start doing that

Any help of where to start and what to look for would be greatly appreciated. and oh yeah Fedora Core 4 does the same think..

Thanks
