I just set up a Redhat linux 8.0 box and I'm having network problems. I can browse websites within my domain, but I cannot make http connections to the outside world. I've tried using Mozilla, Lynx, Konquerer, etc., all without any luck.
At first, I suspected a firewall issue, but after discovering that the redhat firewall tool doesn't seem to be saving modifications, I used the command 'service iptables stop' which I learned on this forum.
My DNS and gateway are working, and I can see the outside world when I issue ping requests. For example:
ping google.com
PING google.com (216.239.51.100) from 130.118.46.124 : 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from
www.google.com (216.239.51.100): icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=84.0 ms
64 bytes from
www.google.com (216.239.51.100): icmp_seq=2 ttl=47 time=84.2 ms
We do not use a proxy server, so that's not it either. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Scott
