I am trying to figure out how to get my internet connection up and working on my system. I have a Compaq Presario 900 series with an internal Realtek RTL 8139 C+ card. I tried to install it manually but the system can not find it. I set it to the same irq that it has in windows. I have a broadband cable connection through Road Runner in Maine, USA. Any tips on how to get this connection to work would be greatly appreciated.
If i can remember. I have redhat 8 by the way do its set up alot like windows. I went into some kind of network config that needed a password and i went through the list of cards and chose mine. Then i set the irq to 11 because this is what windows has it at. I couldnt enter any of the other information it wanted like mem, io, io1, io2, dma1, dma2 etc. When i clicked initialize or whatever it said it couldnt find it?

I am having the exact same problem with the exact same notebook model (compaq 900z). Tried running "modprobe 8139too" but got error back as "no such device" and was given a hint that "may invalid io or irq param"
