I've already installed qmail, but i'm finding problem using it. I'm not understanding clearly how to use it.
Kindly can u suggest a way.

Please be more specific. What have you done so far? Which document did you use as your guide? What have you done to verify that qmail is running? Has DNS been set up?

Hello all,
I am very new to linux..so I decided to use RedHat..perhaps a mistake? Anyway v. 8.0..standard distro.

I want to run a QMail toaster as directed by http://www.ndhsoft.com/qmailtoaster.htm
Problem is, I am installing (via RPM) as an add on, and all required modules are interdependent on others..for instance I have no -devel installed, etc.
Is there a sequence of adding these RPMs that will get me to the end? I tried adding all from the distro disks (downloaded from RH mirror in March)...but they update install options only cover <50% of the dependencies.

Manually adding the RPMs causes "___rpm has the follwing dependencies: (LIST) installation cannot continue until-blah blah blah..
so it's a deadend so far.

I am ready to kill RH if needed, and move to another distro, though I'd rather not, since my server is already running.

You can install more than one RPM at a time. If you have a lot of RPMs that depend on each other, install them all at once. One way is to put them all in a directory and do something like

rpm -ivh *.rpm

Then if it says one is missing, go get it, chuck it in the directory and run rpm again.

Don't ditch redhat... it's good enough! just need to learn to drive rpm. Which isn't easy, the manpage isn't helpful at first. Some time reading the documentation on redhat.com may be worthwhile.

Even without using rpms, you could always build the packages fromsource. Takes longer, but you get more options and learn more about what the various pieces can do.

For those who might need to do this: I used Redhat.com to start, and gathered the dependencies info from their links, then

downloaded most of what I needed from http://rpmfind.net GREAT SOURCE!

Try going to http://www.qmailrocks.org. They've got a nice isntallation guide that helped me out loads. The site documents a full Qmail installation for Redhat 7.x as well as 9. Give it a try...
