Problem with nfs on redhat 9.0

Hi All,

may I start by thanking you in advance for the help you will give.

I have recently set up a server that is exporting several shares through nfs as seen below.

[xtal@sclx1 xtal]$ more /etc/exports
/data2/ 134.225.50.111(rw,sync)
/data2/ 134.225.50.41(rw,sync)
/userhome/xtal/ 134.225.50.111(rw,sync)
/userhome/xtal/ 134.225.50.41(rw,sync)
/usr/local/ 134.225.50.111(ro,sync)
/usr/local/ 134.225.50.41(ro,sync)

I can mount all of these fine on one machine but on another I keep getting RPC errors. I assume since I can mount everything on one machine the problem must lie with the client. Everything that needs to be running seems to be running on the client.

[xtal@sclx2 xtal]$ /usr/sbin/rpcinfo -p
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
100024 1 udp 32768 status
100024 1 tcp 32768 status
391002 2 tcp 32769 sgi_fam
100011 1 udp 821 rquotad
100011 2 udp 821 rquotad
100011 1 tcp 824 rquotad
100011 2 tcp 824 rquotad
100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
100003 3 udp 2049 nfs
100021 1 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100021 3 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100021 4 udp 32770 nlockmgr
100005 1 udp 32771 mountd
100005 1 tcp 32770 mountd
100005 2 udp 32771 mountd
100005 2 tcp 32770 mountd
100005 3 udp 32771 mountd
100005 3 tcp 32770 mountd

Please can anyone advise.

Many thanks

Ben

You have to ask yourself some questions

1.- Where can you see the filesystem , only on the server??

2.- Have you esported the files . To export the files do a exportfs -ra

3.- to see if they are being exported do exportfs and you should see the file hat are being exported

4.- if nfs service running , ?? in the client and server ?? if not do a service nfs restart

5.- On the client side have you created the mount points ??

6.- Are the filesystem that you want the client to mount in /etc/fstab ??

Many thanks for your help,

it seems all of your points were set up correctly but that was good to know since it meant I was confident in teh setup. The caused turned out to be an over zealous firewall.

Many thanks

Ben
