problem using SWAT

ok I first added the following lines to my inetd.conf file

swat 901/tcp
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat

then I tried to restart inetd and I got

[root@sambaserver root]# killall -HUP inetd
inetd: no process killed

when I tried to log into my localhost from browser
at port 901 I can't log in.

the tutorial I'm using suggested that I need to connect
to my local host as root in order to use SWAT

thanks for any help

Satrt with 'netstat -tan' and see if there is a port 901 LISTENING

If not, get xinetd running properly.

inetd went out with the 2.2 kernels, in favour of xinetd.
xinetd keeps the config files in the /etc/xinetd.d/ directory.
Edit the swat file there... then restart xinetd.

Unless of course you are using an early version of Linux...

Regards,
Peter
