problem configuring email using redhat 7.3

I have a Windows 2000 Server with a firewall and 2 nic cards. Nic1 allows connection to the Internet and Nic2 is for my internal lan (192.168.x.x). I have Windows PC's on the nic2 lan and have added a redhat 7.3 PC. The server has a software product that
uses dhcp / acts as the gateway to the internet for however many PC's are on the internal lan.

I use the Konquerer web browser and in order to talk with the
gateway software on the Windows server to get an Internet connection, under the Proxy Settings tab - I used the server's
IP Address so HTTP/HTTPS & FTP works fine. (192.168.x.x).

My problem is: Whether I use Mozilla email or KMail I cannot send or receive email. It cannot find the pop3 or smtp IP Address of my ISP?? I cannot ping those IP Addresses either, so I know that is where the problem is.

The firewall for redhat 7.3 is not the problem. So, what do I do??

Thanks for any assistance!

Hi
What are you running on the Win2k machine? Are you just using Internet Connection Sharing thingy, or are you, as it sounds, using some sort of proxy? Or both?

Windows 2k is a server that allows Internet connectivity via
nic2 for the internal lan network. I am using a windows software product that acts as a gateway so these machines can get to
the Internet. It uses DHCP and in effect is like a proxy server for
connectivity purposes. The windows PC's use the gateway client
software and you need not configure anything.

The Linux PC's cannot use that client so you must in effect setup
as a proxy server address of the Windows server so the boxes can communicate. I do not see anything with either Linux email
program that allows you to configure it so the pop & smtp can validate my email accounts user name / password and the other
issue is the email programs obviously are not resolving the IP Addresses either???

The browser works fine...........

So how do I configure the email program to fix the connectivity problem??
Thanks !

Let me know what software you're running on the Win2k machine..
However, assuming your Windoze clients can ping Internet addresses and their pop3/smtp conenctions are fine... set your DNS and Gateway on the linux machine to the same as your windoze machines have been set by the 'client software'
(ipconfig /all at a command prompt on windoze to see this info)

might be worth looking at the email client setup on the win machines too

Ought to help, I think..
