I am using Mandrake 10.1, trying to print to an HP on a Windows XP host in my LAN. I know Samba is working - I can access files. CUPS appears to recognize the printer, and I have looked through this forum and a couple others for answers and configurations, but nothing seems to allow me to print! The printer appears to be recognized, but the jobs never reach it. Anybody have any suggestions?

Have you checked to be sure that the SMB/Linux/Unix printing protocol is installed on the XP host? It is not installed by default... you have to "enable" it through Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs/Add/Remove/Windows Components/"Other file and printing services"...
Once you have done that you may have to reconfigure cups so that you connect with the printer as "guest"! I'm not in front of my Linux box right now, but I can post later what the exact configuration is.
