PPTPD, no gateway,ping OK

Hello ,sorry that iam a newbie in Linux so please answer to me in steps.THX

My problem is simple, iam runing ubuntu 8.04 (ebox 1.4) , i have installed and configured PPTPD server, i can connect and ping users perfectly. BUT i dont getting any gateway address, in my case i have to get IP address (PPTP server address).

I tried to change localIP in pptpd.conf to ,or my remote(ISP) address but nothing.

Can someone explain to me how can i manually assign gateway IP address to PPTPD Server ???

localIP in pptpd.conf is for setting the local ip that is going to be asigned to the end of the tunnel in the linux server, this means:

if you configure localip as and remoteip as when the client establish a connection to the server it will be as a ppp (modem) connection with two ends, one in the server with the address and the other in the user with an assigned address from the pool configured (let's say; so setting this variable (localIP) as is nonsense.

If what you want is to route the connections from your clients to the Internet, or an external network, try to use one of the options explained in "man pptpd.conf" under the common title: ROUTING CHECKLIST.
