ppp either very slow or doesn't work
i'm running mandrake 8.0
i have a 2 computer lan (one is NT)
the lan works.
my ppp connection doesnt. when i dial, the modem works, makes a connection, takes quite awhile to start the pppd and sometimes doesnt. when it does start, the connection shows me sending packets and receiving either very few or none at all. i have deleted my defaultroute from my routing table and let the ppp connection define its own, which it does since i can see it in the table when it thinks i'm on the net.
i'm eagerly open to any ideas, even the truly bizarre!
take a shot and help me out! PLEASE!!

Hi,
do you dial manually or on demand? If you dial on demand the default gateway should be the ip of the ppp-device before it gets a new ip from your provider.

hi alphawolf...
i'm not sure what you mean. i use kde dialer app to log on. when you say ppp-device, do you mean the computer the modem is connected to? what would the routing table entry for that look like?
thanx for answering my plea!

Hey you dialers,
lock for the entries in /etc/resolv.conf while youre on and when you're not. There should be the nameservers of your provider, when youre online.
