Pings

Morning

I'm curious if anyone with rogers.com or any other isp have recently or in the past been receiving a tremendous amount of pings. Over the past month or two I receive almost 1400 pings daily from other users of my isp. I've spoke with tech support who redirect me to abuse@isp.com, but I get nowhere with them.
I've stated numerous times that I wish something to be done about this but no luck. It makes it extremely difficult to read my logs and to determine what I should and should not be worried about. Would anyone know of a good way to resolve this? I'm blocking pings but they obviously still get logged.

thanks

gbell

AFAIK you would see this sort of activity from script kiddies trying to identify vulnerable machines to hack, unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to stop them scanning. I'm pretty certain that someone else here will be able to tell you how to limit how often these pings are logged though, unfortunately I'm too new

This is a sign of the Blaster worm virus it tries to find vulnerable computers with these methods which has the knock on effect of slowing down networks.

It can only affect MS systems without the RPC patch.
