What is the model of the modem?
(A quick google search of the Init2 string shows multiple matches, but suggests older models)
I used to use a Huawei E160E which worked fine until DHCP clients started to support IPv6. I suffered much frustration until I paid the paltry sum to purchase a newer model Huawei E3372. I strongly suspect that older Huawei USB modem models are deficient in handling IPv6.

This will assign an OpenDNS name server on the fly. Then see if you can browse etc.
I have added these dns to both /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/ppp/resolv.conf and I still can't browse or ping.

@allend My Modem is also old, huawei e156g but on my Windows it is working. And even on this machine it was working 3 months ago. I think the modem still uses ipv4 from my ISP.

Delete the existing /etc/resolv.conf with
Code:
sudo rm -f /etc/resolv.conf
and then
Code:
echo 'nameserver 208.67.222.222' | sudo tee -a /etc/resolv.conf
Any different?

No difference. Still can't access the internet or ping.
