ping another ip

i am using mandrake 10.0

my system connected to LAN.

my ip is 10.255.240.101

some systems having 192.168.x.x

i can ping and connected to sytem that are having 10.255.240.xxx

but i can not connect or even ping that are having 192.168.x.x

so how to set that to connect.

all the system are having samba installed.

as root "findsmb" gives ip address of all sys starting with 10.255.240.xxx.

not a sys having 192.168.x.x.

pls

Since those are two different networks, there needs to be a router to handle communications between them.

In addition to what n0xvb posted - by default, smb based shares (samba) use broadcasts to locate and elect a master browser. So even though you fix the routing problem, findsmb will still only return systems that have registed within that network segment (broadcast domain). i.e. 10.255.240.*

The way around this is to use a WINS server on your network. Then reconfigure all hosts on both networks to use (register) with the WINS server. BTW: Samba can be configured to be a WINS server. Also, if you are having this problem on your work LAN, then I would suggest that you first seek the help of your network administrator before implementing a WINS server. Chances are you have simply set the wrong IP address for your linux box.
