Question opening ports manually


dear all,

what command or utility should i use to open a port on my linux server manually? let's say smtp port 25? thanks.

Open a port manually meaning via your firewall?

Assuming you're running iptables

/sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT

And this would have to be before any DENY rules

Please explain more if that's not what you meant

well if you want an smtp server just start one....it will automatically bind to port 25 and thats it.....
