No Internet connection W/mdk 10

Last night I received mandrake's 10 powerpack. I installed it on my laptop and everything worked great, right out of the box. This morning I installed it on my desktop. It looked good but I cannot connect to the inter-net with my lan connection.

With 9.2 I had no problem at all. In fact out of the box it ran very well. Further, I have a duelboot with xp on this machine and the lan connection works just fine. This is definitely a mdk10 issue.

I use a linksys BEFW11S4 router I do not think this is the problem as I mentioned before, the connection was strong under 9.2. I disabled SHOREWALL so this isn't the problem. I have tried assigning a static ip address. Linksys uses 192.168.1.xxx. I have also assigned a static gateway address. Nothing is working. So frustrating, just when I think I am finally falling in love...mandrake betrays me.

Really though, I am joking. Mandrake is great. 10 is running so well on my laptop. I have been impressed with both 9.2 and 10 in regards to how smoothly they have taken to this ThinkPad. Anyway, I would very much like to find a solution for the desktop's internet connection.

My ethernet card is: 3Com| 3c905C-TX Fast Etherlink. Could this be the problem? I am wondering if it is not supported in mdk10. If this is the case is there a way to pull the correct driver from my 9.2 disks?

Any help would be great.

Here is an update.

I ran a usb cable directly from the cable modem and I can connect this way. The issue than would seem to be the ethernet card. I am glad to have this connection but this makes networking and printer sharing rather a pian. Again, any help or direction would be appreciated.

By the way, I did try a direct connection from the modem with an ethnernet cable and this did not work. My cables are fine as they work perfectly under 9.2 and xp.

thank you
