Hi,
I'm running Mdk9.1 with an onboard Nvidia Ethernet adapter (I configured and loaded the nvnet.o module for that distrib and kernel).
I'm trying to connect to my ISP (In France : Free avec la FreeBox) but when bringing up interface eth0, it fails. Here is what the syslog say :
dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
ifplugd(eth0)[3954]: Killing child
ifplugd(eth0)[3954]: Client: Determining IP information for eth0...
ifplugd(eth0)[3954]: Program execution failed, return value is 0
ifplugd(eth0): exiting
network: activating eth0 interface : failed
dhclient : No DHCPOFFERS received
My ISP and the Adsl modem (the Freebox) work alright, cause I can connect alright with another computer (my labtop running mdk 9.2).
Yeah, it's said in the doc of my ISP that I have to use DHCP.
What's btw ?
Mandrake's OK with the modem, cause from my labtop running mdk, I have no pb, only with the desktop computer (Actually, it worked fine before I decided to re-install linux !!!)
maybe your kernel doesn't support it or don't load it... what's the modem exactly? Look like your working computer is an earlier version of Mandrake, so maybe their kernel is more recent or they added some new functonnalities
