Angry NFS<IRIX -> RH9 Client

The situation is as follows:

File Server: SGI Challenge L running IRIX latest mod fo IRIX 6.5
Client: Dell 650N running Redhat 9

Server provides /users to Client.
myaccount's HOME is "/users/myaccount"

NOTE: At this point I had finger trouble resulting in a truncated post

The problem is that a number fo applications are having trouble with their
"Open" dialogs.
Typically they won't allow me to dig down past the HOME level.

JBuilder requires I enter a fully qualified path to get at files, projects, etc.

Netscape 7.1 tells me"

"you do not have the permissions necessary to view this directory"

Opera requires that I prompt(?) it by entering one of the subdirectories to HOME.

Permissions are:

/users drwxr-xr-x
/users/account drwxr-xr-x

Client /etc/fstab looks like:

...
server:/users /users nfs soft,intr 0 0
...

Any ideas what might be the problem?

PS: And by the way my shell is "/bin/bash"

2003/11/24

I had an idea the problem might be related to the way my account environment is set up.
I moved .bash* files to .bash*.SAVE and cycled through logout/login. Again, no joy.
