nforce 1 nvnet lag

I just recently reinstalled and I've been experiencing an odd problem.

When I type a URL into the address bar in Mozilla, then press <enter>, it takes about ten seconds to load the page. I understand how this could be a problem for 56k modem users, but before I reinstalled Red Hat, it happened instantaneously. I have broadband, and this doesn't happen on my dad's M$ box. The weirdest part is that when I'm downloading off an internet server, I still get high speeds (100kpbs+). The mouse lags, and so does everything else, whenever I'm using the network to access other computers.

I've tried reinstalling RH 8.0 and 9. I've also tried installing the rpm, AND the tar.gz drivers In RH 9, if I install the rpm, the nvnet device is not detected, and if I install the tar.gz file, it is detected, but it has the laggy problem. It is lagging in RH8 regardless.

I have an Athlon XP 1700+, and an ABIT NV7-133R with onboard NIC.

Any suggestions?

I also have an nv7-133r and I just plain cant get the nic to work. I have no problems with the audio, RH9 picks it right up but the nic is a no go.

i'm a n00b at *nix, so i'm pretty clueless how to fix it....just wanted to hop in the thread so if anyone does have a clue as to the problems with nforce and rh9..please let me know too..i'd love to finally get online with my rh9 installation.

thanks
jay

This is a fairly easily fixed problem.

You need to go to the nForce drivers download page and download the tar.gz file.

You then need to extract the file.
CD to the directory.

If you extracted it to /home/foo/nforce/ then, run the command
cd /home/foo/nforce/

and then run the commands
make
and
make install

Then, cd to the nvnet directory
cd ./nvnet

Then run the commands:
make
and then
make install

One of these won't do anything, but I don't remember which one, and my computer has been fried, so I can't run them. But it doesn't matter, it won't hurt anything - just run both of them. Then, reboot, and it should work just fine.

That's what I did, but I'm a Linux n00b, too,
but it should still work.
