With me I see
waiting for carrier

ip (my pc)
ip (ISP)
connecting to ppp

(this is the overall idea though, I can't remember exactly)
What I would want to know,
Did I log in? B/c I can't see anywhere where it would be checking the username and password.
Also there is a connection after pppd started, but I can't ping anywhere.
CONNECT 56000/IP address etc..
Looks like a login Prompt

Looks like a password prompt

That's VERY ROUGHLY what I see when I connect through wvdial. wvdial may not be negotiating with the correct protocol, eg. PAP, CHAP...Or something in your wvdial script is set incorrectly accidentally.
I tried for a week or so to get rp3 and wvdial to connect me to ATT Worldnet. It would dial and connect, but wouldn't allow anything to work. WHen I gave up and setup a simple ppp-on script, it worked like a champ. Maybe try the older method and see if that doesn;t work for you.
Find out if your isp uses chap or pap (or neither) authentication.
i'm using *)(*&) gnome terminal and cant cut and past from it or I'd post my script.

I will try that ppp-on. The strange thing is that I found out that KDE's dialer does work for me, so what's the difference????
BTW: You can cut and past from you gnome terminal simply by selecting (selecting copies it automaticaly) and in the in a text editor click the middle mouse button.
oh ty for the cut and paste help. I am not sure if kppp uses wvdial or if the problem really lies with rp3, redhats gui dialer. I use gnome so I can't really give any opinion about kppp.
kppp is a graphical interface of wvdial for KDE just as rp3 is the graphical interface for gnome. I use gnome btw but have KDE installed as well so the KDE applications show in my menu.
i wish i had installed both kde and gnome. I tried installing kde afterwards and there were so many dependencies, I decided to wait until rh 7.3 and maybe kde3 will be packaged along with.
i love *nix myself. bout got the redmond, wa monkey off my back. Even getting some converts in my house as my wife sees how long my linux box runs w/o a single major concern. I set up a php interface to our mp3's so we can both share music across our internal lan, so all is good right now
