Newbie Help : can i setup IP Masquerading with a device alias ?

Hello All ,

i have a linux box and a windows box at my home.
I connect to the ISP through ethernet on my linux box. Since i have only one static IP address i was thinking of setting up the linux networking properties in such a way that i can share the internet with the windows box.

to do this , i setup a device alias of the eth0 i have on my linux box with ip address 192.168.0.1 and gave the windows box 192.168.0.2 IP address. Setup IP masquerading on my linux box.

i can ping from the linux box to windows and vice versa. but the internet still doesnt work in windows.

is it possible to do IP masquerading using a device alias ? or do i need a seperate ethernet card ?

thanks,
manu
