Networking on a USB installation

Hi everybody

I have installed sidux on my portable hard disk and i am able to boot it on quite a number of machines. However there is one short coming, my installation is not able to access network on machines which are enabled with networking. During the installation DHCP was not configured.

I know its difficult to access network on a variety of machines since the network hardware will be different from system to system. But my inspiration is live cd's which comes with a collection of drivers and load the drivers relevant for the corresponding hardware.

I don't know how to start with this. Please help

I don't know much about Networking, etc so maybe I'm "fishing with a Baseball bat", but you might wanna try these 2 distro's-

grml-Has more detection, etc software than KNOPPIX
Get the FULL version- "grml_2008.11.iso" or "grml64_2008.11.iso"

And INSERT inside security. Lots of Tools
( http://www.inside-security.de/applicationlist.html )

Being that your trying to do this from USB-
There is a script and a wiki for putting grml on USB
SCRIPT- ( http://grml.org/scripts/grml2usb )
WIKI- ( http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=usb )

And INSERT can install to USB from the LIVECD (60MB)
INSERT is also now included in UltimateBootCD
( http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ )
I believe UBCD can also install to USB from CD...

Others here can answer your specific questions-Just thought Distro's more suited to detection/security/rescue like those above are better than Sidux.
