Cool Networking between windows and linux with IP MASQ

I am new to linux and tried hard in the last two days to set up a home newwork between my WinXP notebook and the redhat linux machine without any success.
I followed the HOWTO manual and read a lot of posts about this subject. None of them works. And finally, just two minutes, i got it work. The HOWTO manual and all the answers to the posts were right. But there is something i think worth to be known to every newbie. That is the way you connect your win machine to linux box.

I just change the regular ethnet cable with a cross-over cable to connect my winxp notebook to the linux machine. It works. I didn't try the hub. I think connect a hub to linux box first and then connect win machine to hub with regular cable will also work.

Hope it helps!

networking between win2000 and redhat 7.2

I worked on redhat 8. When i tried to connected window xp machine to redhat 8 machine. I followed the instruction in "http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/index.html"
It is a great step by step manual. Please follow it and you will get your networking working, though there is no mention that you should use "cross over" cable to connect your machines.

good luck!
