Network configuration using cellular broadband as internet source
I am learning networking using red hat 9.0 as my linux o/s. Sometimes when I am away from my home base, I have a need to create a "quickie" network, using my cellular broadband connection as the internet source. This connection works well in Linux on my toshiba laptop. I have a usb-to-NIC adapter for a secondary network connection and a crossover cable to interface to a second computer. I am not familiar with how I should configure this so that the second computer ( a windows 98se or a windows xp-home ) can see the internet through my laptop.
I recognize that you will need two NIC devices in the laptop. One of those is my cellular broadband card, since there is no other card slot available for a true network card, my only choice is to use a usb to nic device for the network interface to the other computer. since there is no router or switch/hub available then I would need a crossover cat5 cable to connect to the other computer.
I am mainly interested in the commands within linux to set up two network interfaces and any other gotchas that I need to be aware of in creating this setup.
