First off I've searched and searched the net with google I havent really found anything that could really help me,
This is my second serious time messing around with Linux of hopes of liking it and using it more,
Ok here is my little story (Brief)
I got an extra computer from a friend and installed linux 7.3 I think and turned out the HD was bad, But I used it anyway and started trying to go on the net with it,
By the way I have Charter Pipeline here in SC,
I searched and searched the net for help and finally got some help on it,
Turns out I needed to leave th modem unplugged for 30 mins but knowing me I did that for only about 5 mins and tried to see if it would work and it did.
But recently I've obtained a new hard drive and set up RH 9.0 on it,
Looks nice and is kinda comfortable feeling, BUT I've tried all of my old steps and searched for more but I'm yet to yield any answers that will help me on this.
Thats why I'm here to consult with the pros
Please help guys & gals,
Thanks!
Michael
Um, I would really like to help, if I can, but i need more information.
Explain, in detail not brief, your full setup at home and exactly what you are trying to do; exactly what you have tried and exactly what you would like to happen :P
I might be able to provide a little bit of help, even tho I am not a "pro" at this whole linux game yet.
Well I'm trying to get my internet connection which is Cable to work with Redhat Linux 9.0.
Before it had worked on Redhat Linux 7.3, I'm very sure of it,
And as I stated above ^ I tried the steps that I did in 7.3 and it didnt work at all,
I dunno whats the matter with 9.0 or my cable,
Then when I switch back to Windows XP and plug the cable back up all I have to do is reset the modem and boom I have internet access but nuhhhh uhhhh not with freaking Redhat,
Someone help me PLEASE!
All I wanna do is use the freaking linux box
How do you connect your computer to your cable modem??
In England with NTL you have to reset the cable modem and it clears all the Windows type things on it (or something). Whether or not that is the case with you I don't know.
Do you have a static or dhcp connection to your ISP?
Hey, I have a dhcp connection, But yeh I've tried resetting it to clear all of the windows stuff still doesnt work, And I really have no clue why, Cause I mean it did with RH 7.3 ummm this little black dhcp login screen comes up at bootup before going to graphical logon...
You may have to reactivate your init.d file in the old Mandrake you could do this thorugh the control panel- In RH 9 it should be under "Server Settings"
Hope this helps you out..
