Need help with network settings and router

I'm using RedHat Linux 8.0 and I need help with my network configuration.

I use an ethernet connection that goes through a router. Whenever I try to get DHCP to automatically configure my system, it just hangs. I was wondering if anyone knew which settings I need to manually set (IE DNS, host, subnet info) to get an internet connection.

Thanks.

Is your router configured as a DNS server? If it is not then you may be trying to get your IP address from your ISP but the router is blocking it.

Have you checked if ICMP is open in your firewall rules?
